Estimating & Fitting Service
Our estimating service includes advice on flooring types and their suitability to the area being measured including advice on any remedial work required to ensure your new flooring looks beautiful.
We will bring suitable flooring samples, and advise on the most suitable underlay and any accessories required such as door bars.
On delivery of your new flooring, we will arrange a convenient fitting date and organise one of our long serving fitting teams to come and lay your new floor covering.
We can usually complete this process within two to three weeks of placing your order.

Estimating - the process
Several key areas need consideration when calculating the cost of new floor coverings. These include:
- Sizes of areas including recesses and doorways
- The number of door bars/thresholds
- Door clearances
- The condition of the subfloor, i.e. are there loose floorboards or uneven surfaces which need attention before new flooring can be laid?
- Additional floor preparation with screed or ply boarding, and (if required) a damp proof membrane if fitting flooring such as LVT (Karndean/Amtico)
- Carpet pile direction
- Pattern repeats
- Where to put joins in carpets if the areas are larger than the roll width
- The width of the carpet roll required (may create less waste)
- Suitability of particular flooring coverings
- Any furniture you may want the fitter to move
- Existing floor coverings that need to be removed
- Lead times and the fitting timetable
We will quantify the materials required and produce an estimate for you. On acceptance, we will discuss the next stages, including timescales and when payments need to be taken.
The flooring will be ordered (if it is not already in stock). You will be contacted to book a fitting date when the flooring arrives.
Please note that some floor coverings need to be delivered to your home at least 48 hours before fitting to allow them to acclimatise in the area in which they are to be installed (this helps prevent shrinkage of some floor coverings).
Fitting - the process
Our fitting teams are some of the most experienced in Devon and have worked for our company for many years. Read some of our customer testimonials for reassurance on the quality of the fitting you should expect.
Prior to the fitting of your new flooring, you need to prepare your room(s). We can offer assistance with moving furniture and appliances.
Before laying new flooring, the fitter will make any repairs previously identified by the estimator and sweep the floor. If doors are likely to drag on the new carpet, this will have been noted at the time of receiving your estimate as a definite or possible charge. Please note that not all doors can be trimmed – please discuss with our estimator at the time of ordering.
Once your new flooring has been laid, our fitter will leave you with any waste. Many of our customers have suitable carpet waste pieces bound around the edges to create a bespoke mat or rug for the same room. Please let us know if you would like more information on this service.
